We are a "not for profit" community project and we able to provide the "Holiday Lunch Club" to schools here in Torbay.
Feed A Child Torbay(FACT) began in 2017 when our founder recalled the hunger pains that she and her sister had experienced as children in Manchester during holidays when free school meals were not available. In 2017, newspapers reported that 40% of children in Torbay were living below the poverty line and suffered from not having free school meals during the holidays. Very quickly a group formed to take action against holiday hunger; presently the group includes many volunteers. New volunteers are always welcome; there are no paid staff.
Feed A Child Torbay sponsors "The Holiday Lunch Club" and has provided free hot meals to over 100 families, during school holidays.
We are delighted by the success of our project and excited to be teaming up with local schools here in Torbay, to support families in our community. Our project depends on the support of our volunteers, the public and the caring teachers from the school, who all give up their free time during the school holidays, to prepare, cook and serve families in the community.
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses, organisations and the general public, who have donated both money and produce.
If you think YOUR local school would be interested... Please get in touch, we would love to hear from you!
FACT’s primary activity is providing “meal kits” for the holiday periods to families who need them, as identified by the schools. Pastoral care tutors at the schools specify the number of families who would benefit from help, and FACT provides bags each containing non-perishable ingredients and simple recipes for an easily prepared, budget meal. We also provide "breakfast kits" (cereal bars and juice boxes) to the schools, for teachers to provide when a child is clearly too hungry to learn.
